LATE SUMMER IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR ON BOARD FOR MANY ⛵️

The peak of summer is over, the cruising areas are getting quieter, and peace is returning to the anchorages. For many, this is when the most enjoyable time of the year on board begins.

And for more and more people, a yacht or houseboat is no longer just a holiday destination — it has become a home and workplace.

To make that lifestyle work comfortably and sustainably, three technical areas are crucial:

1. Energy – not just for the batteries

Reliable 230V power with sufficient capacity is no longer a luxury on board. Laptops, coffee machines, electric cookers, kitchen appliances and bread makers all need dependable power.

With a properly sized energy system, you can even cook entirely electrically today — for example, with induction. This not only reduces gas consumption but can also provide a significant safety benefit on board.

💧 2. Water – why keep carrying bottles?

If you live on the water, access to clean drinking water should be a given.

With drinking water treatment and, depending on the cruising area, seawater desalination, you can produce both drinking and utility water directly on board.

That saves plastic, money and, above all, valuable storage space. And yes — it also means your shower can occasionally last longer than 30 seconds. 😉

♻️ 3. Wastewater – the underestimated challenge

This is where things get technical — and, in many cruising areas, infrastructure can become a real problem.

A widespread and reliably functioning network of wastewater pump-out stations simply doesn’t exist in many places. Numerous older stations are now broken or have disappeared altogether. At the same time, nobody wants to discharge wastewater illegally into the water.

Our solution: fully biological wastewater treatment directly on board.

Our enteron® marine wastewater treatment systems operate without chemicals and are designed to require as little maintenance as possible. Regular inspections and necessary service work can be carried out by the boat owner.

The treated water is purified to a level that allows discharge again. The systems are IMO-certified and are particularly interesting for larger yachts, houseboats and boats used as permanent residences.

👉 So the real question is:

How self-sufficient does a boat actually need to be for you to live on board permanently — and comfortably?

Are solar, batteries and a watermaker enough? Or has onboard wastewater treatment become just as essential to modern marine technology?

What do you think? What is absolutely essential on board if you want to live there for several months — or even permanently?

I’m looking forward to hearing about your experiences and opinions.

And if you’re still planning your life on board, I’m always happy to help personally:
